Can we save the Sasthamangalam Trees ?

Two days back they cut down three trees at the Kawdiar Junction on the way to Kuravankonam.  One of them was a banyan tree and a huge one, and one was a mango tree that we had saved.  They said it was standing on the roads.  When we asked the Chief of the Kerala Road Fund Board, he said it was trees that were sanctioned to be cut.

Who sanctioned these trees ?  The tree committee that was setup to review such demands, where not consulted at all.  It just disappeared overnight.

Will the Sasthamangalam trees, that have no sanction for cutting also have the same fate.  We are watching.  Moreover, that is one junction where roads can be expanded without cutting down the big tree in the centre and all the trees on the medians.  Still, will it survive ?

We have asked the Kerala Road Fund Board to come up with an alternate plan for the junction, by retaining the tree and the island as was done at Kesavadasapuram.
